Description
Introduction Today women are political actors in a wide range of different settings and we probably all know at least one female activist but how often do we read of them? In recent years there have been numbers of biographies and autobiographies about the lives of women. These have focused on the stories of women's lives--ordinary women, the celebration and achievements of women, detailed descriptions of women's activities and the richness of women's lives both historical and contemporary (Scutt 1992; Nelson and Nelson 1986; Young 1991; Carter 1981; Mitchell 1991). Few though have documented women's involvement in campaigns, action in the workplace, political action, or action at the local level of community.
